I have a bunch of Kuhn Rikon knives. I wanted to spend a fortune on high end knives like Shun, but the the Kuhn Rikon knives did such a good job that, with an entire set costing less than a single Shun, I quickly abandoned "status" and bought the Kuhn Rikons.

No matter who makes a knife or how well the knives are treated, they will eventually need sharpening. Since the knives carried the Kuhn Rikon label, I decided the sharpener should, too. The sharpener does not disappoint! Just a few strokes and my knives are just as sharp as the day the were unsealed! The sharpener is virtually idiot-proof since all one has to do is pull a knife through a few times.

The one odd thing about the sharpener is that it's awkward to open at first. It was a bit sticky. However, the sharpener does such a good job that I decided not to take off any stars. DEFINITELY recommended!

To be honest, this is my first home-sharpening implement. I am one of those people who has to keep unloading a whole tray of blunt knives at the professional sharpening shop every year because I get through sharp blades extremely fast. I chop a mountain-load of produce every month. It's no wonder that my knives get VERY blunt.

One of the commenters in another review helpfully pointed out an instructional video for using this sharpener at the Kuhh Rikon website:[...] Agreed that knife-sharpening is not exactly rocket-science or even neurosurgery but it's useful to give it a quick view before using this sharpener.

My knives are around 20% sharper than they were before running them through this Kuhn Rikon sharpener for an average of 20+ times. Is that worth $10.60 or whatever the price is right now? I will let you decide. I could perhaps get through my blunt-knife phase with this sharpener but it is not a replacement for professional sharpening.
